This week I got a lot done. I worked on the flyer, smore.com flyer, and emails that I needed to send in order to get more people coming to my event. I contacted the Technology Academy, as well as the Robotics club at First Colonial. I turned in my building use form, after talking with my consultant about the best day and getting it completely filled out. My date is concrete, so that makes me feel better because I feel like I have a deadline to get my work done, which means I know I won’t procrastinate.
One problem I’m having is figuring out the obstacle course. I’m not exactly sure what I want out of it, so I keep making and scraping everything I’ve done. I’m back at square one with the obstacle course, so I’m going to re-plan it and try to make it better. Hopefully, it will turn out how I want. Currently, I’m using foam core to build a base and walls and I will have multiple materials to create the game. People will simply put the materials how they want and see if the robot can figure a way out. This is different from what I had before, as I built a maze, but now it is more active with the audience. I just have to build it, which is what I will spend the rest of this week doing. Since I’m restarting this, I will be using next week to build and complete it and then test it some next week, to ensure it will hold up. Other than the obstacle course, I don’t really have much of a concern for anything else.
I’ve been doing a lot of publicity preparation this week, especially emailing many people and trying to get a guest speaker, which is a little difficult in this city, as there is not much of a base for Artificial Intelligence in Virginia Beach, other than the military. The military is not easy to contact, so I have contacted a school that I am waiting to get back to me. If they can’t, I will try to email another school on my list, otherwise I will not have a guest speaker at the event, which isn’t a problem, but would be a great addition to the event, as they would have a good perspective and handling on the subject, but I digress. I am not really concerned about the amount of people, as I feel I will have a good turnout; hopefully the addition of an actual robot (especially one from Star Wars) will put me over the edge.
I did have to change my time, which I didn’t find out about until after sending flyers, but I just re-emailed the flyer.
